Totem Moai is an enemy in Gradius III. They also appear in Gradius Gaiden.
Description[]
Totem Moai are comprised of cylindrical stone bricks with Moai faces on its sides, stacked in large numbers to form pillars. These bricks spin constantly, stopping whenever a Moai face is facing the player to shoot before turning into the next face. Each brick is only destroyed after all Moai faces on it are crushed.
They return again in Gradius Gaiden, where they are oriented horizontally but otherwise follow the same pattern. This time, however, the individual bricks aren't destroyed after the Moai faces are crushed, merely deactivating that individual brick.
