Rexion Core

Rexion Core (レクシオンコア Rekushion Koa^?) is the first boss of Stage 8 in Gradius Galaxies.

Attack patterns[]

Note: All attack names are purely conjectural.

This battle has three phases, each with two accompanying support weapons which are destructible:

"Search Laser" (Rexion Core) - Its attack pattern consists of shooting two lasers, one after the other, that home in on the player from above or below.
"Beam Shot R" (Support Weapons 1) - Its accompanying support weapons fire mini Beam Shots in alternation between narrow and wide.

"Sunburst Shot" (Rexion Core) - After defeating it, the ship gets resurrected by what appears to be a backup repair module. After getting repaired, it shoots bubbles that pop and release shots omni-directionally, like a grapeshot.
"Beam Perimeter" (Support Weapons 2) - The mace-shaped support weapons fire straight beams before creating a perimeter around the player, firing lasers at the near edge in a wide arc. To prevent getting hit, the player must stay on the far lest side of the screen and stay vertically centered.

"Sunburst Shot Kai" (Rexion Core) - After defeating it for the second time, the machine resurrects the core again and fires a more deadly variation of the same buckshot by having more bullets in a sunburst.
"Zub Summon" (Zub Spheres) - The assisting weapons summon Zubs to ram the player in 2 groups of 8 at first. The weapons themselves move back to accompany the Rexion Core and repeatedly summon more Zubs.

After defeating it for the third time, it dies and finally explodes.

The battle against Rexion Core with three phases is based on the battle against Vasteel Original and Vasteel Nocht from Thunder Force V & VI, respectively.
Due to the fact that there is no boss rush in Gradius Galaxies, it is the only Gradius boss equivalent of the typical boss rush seen in the Gradius series.
