Big Eye (ビッグアイ) is the boss of the second stage in the arcade version of Gradius II and a sub-boss in the same level in the NES version (being replaced as a boss by Giga).
Attack patterns[]
Big Eye's arms are noticeably similar to that of the Golem from Salamander and will be constantly waving back and forth, aiming at the player's ship and releasing destructible particles from their ends. These particles will stick to the walls and become destructible walls. In addition, Big Eye will occasionally open its eye and launch a large projectile before closing it again.
In the arcade version, if the battle takes too long, it will launch its eye in an almost unavoidable maneuver which will kill both him and the Vic Viper (this attack is actually avoidable, but very hard to dodge).
Anime[]
Big Eye appears in the third episode of the Salamander anime series. It appears inside of the Artificial Sun used by the Bacterians as a base, attempting to prevent the heroes from escaping after they rescue Stephanie, but it is ultimately defeated by Lord British.
